Truck & Car Park at Winchelsea and Torquay Depot, VIC

Client: Surf Coast Shire

Project: Winchelsea and Torquay depot car parks

Summary: HIGHLUX supplied and installed 4x high powered and customised SOLANOVA systems, 2x in each Surf Coast Shire depot in Winchelsea and Torquay, to provide reliable motion-activated car park lighting and improve safety for workers and site visitors.

Cost: $40k

Install date: November 2019

Key challenges

  1. Large open car park space requiring lighting programmed within specific hours for the morning and evening shifts.
  2. Integration of high-quality long-range microwave sensors with SOLANOVA to provide reliable motion sensing at longer distance than standard infra-red motion sensing.
  3. Integration of remote timer switches so the lights can also be switched on on-demand outside of their regular programmed hours.

Solution

A total of 4x SOLANOVA systems are installed, each fully self-contained with 120W panel, 60Ah batteries and 2x 29W LED luminaires on double outreaches. Our LED luminaires use excellent optics to spread the light throughout the car park, meeting ASNZS1158.3.1:2005 car park lighting standard category P11c as required.

The final design ended up reducing the original number of poles required across the two car parks from 6x to 4x, which ended up reducing costs and complexity.

Remote monitoring and swing poles were invaluable to diagnose and service teething issues with the microwave sensors, saving considerable time and effort. Remote monitoring allows HIGHLUX to check system performance without a site visit, providing prompt analysis and problem diagnosis. Swing poles allow safe and easy access to the systems without the need to work at heights.
